📊 My watch activity doesn’t match what I see in Move Republic!

Everything you need to know about data and synchronization

Why do I have a different step count on my watch compared to the Move Republic pedometer?

This is the most common question we get — and for a good reason! Step counts can differ depending on the source. Here’s why:

🧠 Different devices = different data

Your watch is on your wrist all day, so it records every movement — even when your phone is lying on a desk.

You usually carry your phone in your pocket, which means not every step is captured. The watch records more because it’s always on your wrist.

➡️ It is completely normal for Move Republic pedometer data (from your phone) to differ from your watch data.

🟡 Complaints about differences between apps and watches will not be accepted.
We encourage you to choose the best method of recording steps for yourself and stick to it throughout the challenge.

🔄 How does step synchronization work?

Every watch requires an intermediary app that collects data and sends it to Move Republic. The process typically looks like this:

Watch → Intermediary app (e.g., Garmin Connect, Mi Fitness)
Intermediary app → Health Connect / Apple Health (if applicable)
Health Connect / Apple Health → Move Republic

💡 Move Republic does not connect directly to watches. Communication always happens through apps and systems that synchronize data.

Good practice — step by step

To avoid misunderstandings and synchronization issues, we recommend following this simple and proven method:

  1. Sync your watch with the intermediary app (e.g., Garmin Connect, Mi Fitness, Zepp Life).

  2. Sync the intermediary app with Health Connect or Apple Health, if your watch requires it.

  3. Check whether the data has appeared in Health Connect / Apple Health.

  4. Open the Move Republic app and check if the activity has been imported.

📌 If the data does not appear in Move Republic within a full day, send us a screenshot from your sports app showing the date and step count. We will manually update your activity. Claims can be submitted up to 3 days back.

How to check if the data is in Health Connect?

  1. Open Health Connect,

  2. Go to “Data and access”,

  3. Select, for example, “Steps”,

  4. Check whether your watch data appears there.

If you want to check whether Health Connect has recorded your cycling rides or running workouts, go to the “Distance” segment.

How to check if the data is in Apple Health?

If you don’t see the Steps or Cycling Distance tiles on the main Apple Health screen, go to the screen editor and add them.

🔁 The best time to synchronize is in the evening.
If you notice missing data, wait until the next day — some data needs extra time.

📤 If after 24 hours the data still hasn’t appeared, send a screenshot from the intermediary app showing the date and activity. We’ll update it manually.

🧩 What’s worth remembering?

  • Different devices may record different step counts — this is normal.

  • Data always reaches Move Republic through intermediary apps.

  • Move Republic has no control over synchronization speed — proper configuration on your side is key.

  • Most issues come from missing sync between the watch and the intermediary app — start by checking that.
