How do I record a workout in the Move Republic app?

The start button records two kinds of activities: distance activities tracked by GPS and time-based workouts at a sports facility.

You start both from the same place, the button at the bottom centre. The difference is what the app measures and what it needs to do so.

1. Recording distance activities

For distance activities the app records your route via GPS. You do not need to select a sports facility, because you are moving outdoors.

How to record

  1. Tap the start button at the bottom centre
  2. Choose the activity, for example walking or cycling
  3. Start the recording and take your phone with you
  4. End the recording when you are done

Important for distance activities

  • Without a GPS signal the app cannot measure your route.
  • Your phone has to be on you, not in a backpack in the car.
  • The points for the distance are a bonus on top of your step points.
  • The faster you move, the more points you get per metre.
  • The recording has to run for at least 1 minute.

Accepted values per activity

If your activity falls outside these values, it will not be counted.

The exact points per metre are listed in the two articles below. They are tiered by distance, so beyond a certain point longer distances earn fewer points per metre.

2. Recording time-based workouts

For time-based workouts the app measures your training duration. This works without a sports watch and without a measured distance, for example at the gym.

How to record

  1. Tap the start button at the bottom centre
  2. Tap Training type and choose what you are doing right now, for example strength training
  3. Choose the sports facility you are currently at. The app shows you the locations near you
  4. If your facility is not listed, you can add it yourself
  5. Start the workout. The timer runs from this moment on
  6. End the workout when you are done. Your Activity Points are credited to your account

Important rules

  • No recording starts without a selected training type.
  • Points are only awarded for workouts recorded in real time.
  • Activity Points can only be earned for one training type at a time.

How Activity Points are calculated

Every training type has its own conversion table. The points per minute depend on the duration and the intensity of the workout.

When you start the workout in the app, no calorie data is transferred from a watch. We therefore always use the left column of the table, the value for Ø cal/min ≤ 5.0.

Bonus points and steps

The Activity Points for your workout are additional points. Steps you take during the workout are still counted separately.

This means you receive both:

  • Activity Points for the duration of your workout,
  • points for the steps recorded while you train.

For your steps to be counted, your phone has to record the movement. So keep it on you instead of leaving it in the locker.

How much this adds depends on the training type. Sports with a lot of movement around the room, for example team sports, dance or classes, generate many steps. Strength training, yoga or stretching generate almost none.

Why does a workout with a sports watch give more points?

A connected watch also transfers the calories you burn. This lets us take your intensity into account, and at higher intensity we use the right column of the table. When you track in the app, we only know your time and your training type.
