What Are Activity Points (AP)?
Activity Points (AP) are Move Republic’s internal metric used to measure and compare different forms of physical activity in a simple and universal way.
We are introducing a new progressive-regressive system for activities available in our app. At the moment, it applies to steps, activities “on foot”, “on wheels”, and “winter sports”.
What Is Progressive–Regressive AP Calculation?
The new AP calculation model is both progressive and regressive, meaning the number of points depends on the intensity of a specific activity performed on a given day. This approach rewards a healthy level of movement while avoiding excessive point gains for extreme values. Its goal is to promote consistency, balance between effort and gain, and fairness across age, gender, and fitness levels.
Where can I find detailed Activity Points calculation rules?
The exact way an activity is converted into Activity Points (AP) depends on the specific activity category and its main calculation parameter (e.g. number of steps or covered distance). Detailed AP calculation rules — including thresholds, multipliers, and activity qualification conditions — are described in dedicated articles for each category:
-
On-Foot Activities – Activity Points (AP) for ON FOOT
-
On-Wheels Activities – Activity Points (AP) for ON WHEELS
-
Winter Activities – Activity Points (AP) for WINTER
Advantages of the New Mechanism
-
Motivation for gradual improvement – initial thresholds provide increasing returns, encouraging users to move from low to moderate activity levels.
-
Prevention of extremes – highly active users no longer achieve disproportionately high scores, promoting fairness in competition.
-
Balanced ranking – reflects overall engagement, not just intensity, encouraging a healthy approach to activity.
-
Flexibility – thresholds and coefficients can be adapted for different types of activities, creating a consistent and fair scoring system (e.g., cycling, walking, or wheelchair movement differ in movement intensity).
